It’s that time of year and yet again I am jaunting off on retreat for a fortnight. I won’t be back until 27th June. So I thought I would leave you with my Top Ten most liked poems as chosen by you! But… then I looked, and there were some real crackers in positions 11 to 15 – so I thought I’d cheat and include those too! I hope you enjoy reading them and I will return soon, hopefully with some new gems 🙂

Click on the title to take you to the original poem 🙂 Enjoy!!

300px-Tramp_smoking_cigar_with_cane_over_arm_-_restoration

I saw an old man

dance a jig,

with betting slip,

waved as his flag.

With tombstone teeth

and nicotine nails,

long matted hair

and yellow wolf eyes.

His dirty clothes,

shone black with smoke,

his fragrance that of

proudest poverty.

I saw an old man

dance a jig today,

clutching victory,

by the betting shop door.

Slowly, silently,

now the moon,

eclipses all but you,

reclining in serendipity’s arms,

as diamonds glinting

eyes of stars,

fledglings nesting

in my heart,

and nought can

sever souls

apart

and she sits waiting

watching the world

and she sits waiting

nobody’s girl

passers-by pass her by

crying inside

and she sits waiting

unnoticed

onlookers look on

dying inside

and she sits waiting

overlooked

Sight seers don’t see her

as she looks over

and she sits waiting

unseen

and she sits waiting

watching the world

and she sits waiting

nobody’s girl
