As I lay upon the grass
and gaze into the sky,
I see a flock of starlings
scoot and flit on by.
Starlings are a noisy bunch,
it’s true they cannot sing;
but they are, oh so graceful,
as they dance upon the wing.
As I lay upon the grass,
they swoop and glide on by.
I see a flock of starlings,
have a disco in the sky.

I like this poem, Alex. I had just recently heard that word “Mumuration.” It describes the phenomenon perfectly!
It certainly does – they are a curious sight to see and much admiration for their co-ordination. I wonder if there is such a thing as a clumsy starling?
I saw this dance in the skies of Rome a couple of years ago. Magic. Lovely poem too
Thank you very much Amanda – I am trying out some poetry for children at the moment and I thought this was a cute one 🙂
Starlings make amazing formations – what they lack in the songbird department, they certainly make up for in grace and beauty.
Always enjoy reading your work Polly 🙂
I meant Alex not Polly don’t have a clue where Polly came from haha!
Haha – thank you – and Polly is also an excellent poet too 😀
I’m such a fool on times haha! Anyway nice work 🙂
Ah no worries – thanks for the visit and the chat 🙂
I’m glad you are back 🙂
Loving the idea of starlings boogying on down in the sky 🙂
I wonder if the older starlings do ‘dad’ dancing 🙂
Human “murmur-ation” could be the same if they could fly in crowd with mobile phones.
Haha – Oh yes – what a brilliant concept 🙂
Sweet!
Thanks Resa 🙂
🙂
A delightful dance. Thank you and well done.
Thank you Mike 🙂
Thank you for making me feel what you feel about Starlings in the sky…
You are welcome – I like to try to imagine a song that they are dancing to 🙂
This makes me think of the word “sussuruss.” Beautiful, thank you.
Oh yes – that is a fabulous word! There are specific words that are just a joy and a delight to work into a poem 🙂

Reblogged this on Worldly Winds.
This makes me look forward to the days of laying in the grass, looking up at the sky again.
Oh me too – at the moment, alas all we would see are rainy skies and a soggy back!
And around here you’d get frostbite and stuck in the snow!
Haha! You’d also get a few strange looks too!!
Absolutely loved this poem. I really liked the story tale like feel
Aw thank you – how kind. I’m pleased you appreciated this 🙂
