Carole Withany II (Dave’s Seagull)

English: An adult seagull (Larus michahellis)

One summer’s day,

they strolled by the sea,

hand holding hand,

Dave and Carole Withany.

The seagulls they circled,

and the sea it did sigh,

an idea did emerge,

as Carole watched them fly by.

She looked up to the heavens,

excited she declared,

give me 50p

and that’s your bird there!

You’ll know Dave’s own seagull,

as it soars on the wing,

with a strong Yorkshire accent,

‘ee by gum’, it will sing.

Now legend still has it,

as myth is passed down,

that Dave’s special seagull,

has been seen in this town.

Now Dave is so happy,

and watches with glee,

for his very own seagull,

that cost 50p

How can the sea,

leave the shore?

How can the moon,

the stars ignore?

How can I live,

without my heart,

and grieve for you,

whilst we’re apart?

How can my sun,

no longer shine?

I will not see,

sunrise sublime.

How can the word,

without the book,

the empty nest,

without the rook.

How can the empty

space be filled?

By graduations,

new lives rebuild.

I never went to Dublin,

or strolled along the shore.

I never walked on Grafton Street,

or wore the pearls you swore.

I never came to visit you,

and relive bygone days;

to welcome ghosts that haunted me,

or weep upon your grave.

A View of Earth from Saturn

Sapphire seas,

tourmaline trees,

the sun shining sweetest nectar.

I soar in the skies,

whilst skimming the seas,

protected by Isis and Hector.

The stars line the way,

whilst the trees bow to me,

and the gulls cry out jubilations!

Old Father Time and Mother Earth smiles,

as the world spins in sweet salvation.

Nereides, 1902 by Gaston Bussière
Of what do I dream,

when I close my eyes?

I dream of the sea

and the star filled skies.

From constellations above

I would fashion a crown;

a cloak from the sea

matches my moonbeam gown.

I roam in the heavens

with Arianrod and Aether.

I swim in the oceans

with Nereides beneath.

With heartbroken Sirens,

sing laments to the seas.

With Aquilo the wind

I sing songs in the breeze.

When I close my eyes,

to this earth I’m not bound.

Neither time nor dimension

can tie this soul down.

I Wish…

Right to the sea
I Wish….

I have a list of dreams to fill,

before my time is through;

although they may seem fanciful,

I wish they will come true.

I want to be an artist,

on the riverbank of life.

To wear a smock and sip champagne,

whilst painting with my knife.

I want to write a book or two –

a literary success!

A story of my coloured life,

upon the library shelf.

To be a renowned poetess,

publish a rhyme or two.

To find my muse in poetry,

and fall in love with you.

I’d like to write a sad song,

that makes the toughest weep,

to be played at all the funerals,

as the coffin is lowered deep.

I want to live just by the sea,

in a white house with a view

of waves that crash upon the shores,

where I could stand with you.

Most of all, be in your arms

and spend with you some time,

gazing at the moonlit stars,

whilst sipping white chilled wine.

Ship in the Stormy Sea

Ship in the Stormy Sea (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Cold cruel sea, mocking and teasing.

Ice flows through your veins;

no compassion – thought or deed,

You are filled with your world – selfish ways.

I can no longer steer my boat upon you,

nor dock upon your shores.

I have no desire to swim within,

or fight your foolish wars.

I long to be free, to be free like the Gull

to fly high to the warmth of the sun.

Escape far away from your cruel cold swell,

how I long for that day to come.

But like my boat, I’m weighed with anchor,

an anchor bound with chains.

I hope that one day I’ll break free and fly,

away from these worldly pains

‘til then I’m chained and I’m grounded,

slave to your wax and your wane;

my hatred and fears are well founded,

a victim to man-made pain.
