How can the sea,
leave the shore?
How can the moon,
the stars ignore?
How can I live,
without my heart,
and grieve for you,
whilst we’re apart?
How can my sun,
no longer shine?
I will not see,
sunrise sublime.
How can the word,
without the book,
the empty nest,
without the rook.
How can the empty
space be filled?
By graduations,
new lives rebuild.

Thank you 🙂
Very pretty stuff, thank you for posting.
Thank you for leaving a comment 🙂
I’m glad you appreciated it 😀
I’m not really in empty nest position but this got me thinking about it. Got me thinking about my parents actually. Thanks for the contemplative moment.
Your welcome 🙂
We parents’ don’t tend to brood too long over empty nests – we tend to take flight and start enjoying new horizons 😉
Sigh!!!
😀
Beautiful, Alex…excellent food for thought (for me) 😀
Aw thank you very much – hope your nest is not too empty 🙂
Well, My son heads for the college in 2013…considering he is my only child, the nest might be vacant for a few months every so often 🙂 But then that’s life, isn’t it…children grow up…spread their wings…fly…and then come back to roost periodically 😀
I’ve just paid the deposit for my Son’s accommodation today. He goes next weekend!
Bittersweet – I’m looking forward to the extra space and the tidiness, but I feel a bit teary when I walk into his room – still I have number 2 son still at home to keep me on my toes!
What… you mean they come back!!! Oh no! I think I need to revise my poem!! 😀
hahahaha…calm down….I said *periodically* 😀 😀 its a win win situation 😛

Hi
Thanks for visiting soulsnet and leaving your lovely comment. Much appreciated.
I was really interested to read that you are a practising Buddhist. I have been studying mindfulness meditation for the last year and Buddhism seems to be a natural next step. Baby steps for me though at the moment.
I really enjoyed your poem “Empty Nest”. My nest has been empty for a while now but is getting filled up again with grandchildren, a lovely next stage. Also I loved your comment above empty nesters not brooding too long but taking flight and enjoying new horizons. It takes a while, transitions can be difficult, but you are right. New stages, new horizons to explore, and for me blogging is one of them.
May we all be peaceful and at ease.

Thank you for such a beautiful reply!
I think gentle steps is the best way for all of us!
I think I may be a few years of the grandchildren phase yet, but I’m looking forward to that one day if and when it happens!
Thank you for visiting 😀
Alex 🙂
And you knew this day was coming. Nicely written.
Oh yes – I still have one fledgling at home – but he too is strengthening his wings 🙂
