With tick after tock

as life leaves the clock,

time is ebbing away,

and tock before tick,

where time starts to slip,

reality shrouded in grey.

The pendulum swings

as the death knell rings

night bleeds into day,

as midnight chimes,

love’s sleep is sublime,

youth has out welcomed its stay.

Slowly, silently,

now the moon,

eclipses all but you,

reclining in serendipity’s arms,

as diamonds glinting

eyes of stars,

fledglings nesting

in my heart,

and nought can

sever souls

apart

Punch and Judy's Carribean Vacation

Do you know,

the other side of me?

Where the grass is greener,

and the soul is darker.

Do you know only,

my second face?

Not like the rest,

the one I keep for best.

Do you know,

if this is sunny side up

heads up, tales down,

turn that frown

upside down?

I think you know,

Little Miss Sunshine,

but have you met Judy

within or without?

Do you know,

the essence of me?

Not that of vanilla,

of sugar and spice,

but one of fear.

Do you know,

the other side of me?

Where the grass is greener,

and the soul is darker.

Of what do I dream,

when I close my eyes?

I dream of the sea

and the star filled skies.

From constellations above

I would fashion a crown;

a cloak from the sea

matches my moonbeam gown.

I roam in the heavens

with Arianrod and Aether.

I swim in the oceans

with Nereides beneath.

With heartbroken Sirens,

sing laments to the seas.

With Aquilo the wind

I sing songs in the breeze.

When I close my eyes,

to this earth I’m not bound.

Neither time nor dimension

can tie this soul down.

I’m hiding in the shadows,

it’s where I long to be,

drifting into dreamscapes,

singing sad soliloquies.

I have my other life, you see?

I’ve lived it since a child;

It’s not quite real – that I know,

but I’ve lived it for a while.

The daytime is the hardest,

a cruel life chased by death;

but night time is so easy,

sleep brings immortal breath.

What’s real, what’s not?

Well who’s to say?

Each one its own delusion,

by night the moon –

by day the sun –

each life is an illusion.

Shadows play upon my mind,

ghosts welcome setting sun;

silhouettes of dreams gone by

half-lives, loves-lived, undone.

So let me go, and leave me be,

to live each night anew.

I’ll sing my sweet soliloquies,

while dreams bring me to you.

You said you loved me from the start,

and in your hands you’d hold my heart.

So I will write a hundred lines,

and I will write a hundred times;

I must not be too literal.

I must not be too literal.

I must not be too literal…

So when you say you love my hair –

adore the sparkle in my eye,

I have no reason to believe you lie.

So just for you,

what I will do,

I shall make a gift to you.

My lustrous hair I will cut,

and Subha like my eye will pluck,

and in a box with my beating heart,

tied with a ribbon and a bow,

to you, these symbols, I bestow.

Step quietly, step quietly,

tread lighter still,

do not wake her,

with footprints shrill.

Step forth, step forth,

with thistledown toes,

footfall snow,

so nobody knows.

And when you are gone,

they will say,

and what of that girl,

did she pass this way?

Grafton Street

Apologies for my lack of presence – I am very busy with work and a room refurb – I hope to be back soon!! Watch this space!

In the interim time, another oldie – one of my readers reminded me of this poem, it is one of my favourites!

I never went to Dublin,

or strolled along the shore.

I never walked on Grafton Street,

or wore the pearls you swore.

I never came to visit you,

and relive bygone days;

to welcome ghosts that haunted me,

or weep upon your grave.

Do you see into the poet’s soul?

Your stare puts me on edge.

I’m sat before you naked;

you write on my blank page.

I saw you, I know you,

and it took me by surprise.

I really didn’t think that,

you’d see into this poet’s eyes.

Even when…

you’re not the one.
