Do you know,
the other side of me?
Where the grass is greener,
and the soul is darker.
Do you know only,
my second face?
Not like the rest,
the one I keep for best.
Do you know,
if this is sunny side up
heads up, tales down,
turn that frown
upside down?
I think you know,
Little Miss Sunshine,
but have you met Judy
within or without?
Do you know,
the essence of me?
Not that of vanilla,
of sugar and spice,
but one of fear.
Do you know,
the other side of me?
Where the grass is greener,
and the soul is darker.

Punch and Judy: the perfect metaphor – love this Alex x π
Thanks Polly. I used to love the Marillion song called Punch and Judy – wonderfully dark π
Wow, yes, haven’t heard it for ages… poor Judy died as I recall…
Indeed she did – poor Judy!
We all have this side, don’t we? I think we have more than two. There’s public and there’s private, and then there’s that deeply buried face no one sees.
Multifaceted π
I loved your poem. It touches a fundamental truth about our communications with others. We are so afraid to show who we wholly are.
Do you know,
the other side of me?
Where the grass is greener,
and the soul is darker.
Wonderful lines. π
Thank you very much Carol – I totally agree with you π I also think with age comes wisdom and we look back and wonder why we chose the paths we did! π
Totally enjoyable. There is a wonderful flow.
Thank you dear one π x
A very, very strong opening – and beautiful description of that side of us that we dare not show to others…
Thank you Marina – sometimes we dare not show that side to ourselves too π
Reblogged this on Worldly Winds.
I just love your poems! I always have to reread them…To get the meanings between the lines!
Aw thank you so much! I’m glad you can see between the lines – that’s where some of the most intriguing things are π
