Tick tock, tick tock,

my mother’s watch,

upon my arm,

tick tock, tick tock.

It shouldn’t be here,

it should be there,

I have her face,

I have her hair,

tick tock, tick tock.

The time flies by,

I grieve each day,

bequeathed to me,

time slips away,

tick tock, tick tock.

I smell the strap,

for scent of her,

but ‘tis long gone,

no trace is there,

tick tock, tick tock.

Our hands the same,

as time moves on,

just memories,

her voice is gone,

tick tock, tick tock.

The days slide by,

my treasured piece,

reminds of times,

and death’s release,

tick tock, tick tock.

Each tick from you,

I further slip,

each tock to you,

a step I skip,

tick tock, tick tock.

Tick tock, tick tock,

my mother’s watch,

upon my arm,

tick tock, tick tock.

amazing dawn chorus

It’s six o’clock in the morning,

the dawn chorus performing,

I didn’t sleep a wink last night,

as I cried, and put the world to rights.

The world continues turning,

tears leave my eyes burning,

it’s over and done, your finally gone,

leaving my broken heart yearning.

I wear a pashmina of pain,

and my grief as a gown,

sorrow bedecks,

a thorned crown.

I haunt this world,

and always will,

until this beating,

heart is stilled.

My soul touches earth,

as I walk on this path,

my visible breath,

‘til I inhale my last.

Don’t bother me so,

with worrisome woes,

don’t ask my name,

as nobody knows.

Birds in a row

The day you left,

and walked out the door,

the heart of the house,

beat no more.

You took the flame,

right out of the fire,

clouds cuddled the sun,

and the moon did cry.

The birds they fell silent,

respecting the day,

when you walked out the door,

and went far away.

Sitting on a razors edge,

cheese wire nerves,

cut through my head,

nails down blackboard,

sing the blues,

grated knuckles,

grief ensues,

nails to quick,

knots pulled tight,

butterflies,

and sleepless nights,

steeped in fear,

low self-esteem;

wake me now,

from this bad dream.

Camargue horse

Flaming flamingos,

cantering Camargues,

exotic, erotic,

the passions are ours.

Gossamer lace wings,

and butterflies hearts,

so fragile, so delicate,

can tear us apart.

Humming bird’s tears,

and bumble bee breath,

a delicate balance,

of grief brought by death.

How can the sea,

leave the shore?

How can the moon,

the stars ignore?

How can I live,

without my heart,

and grieve for you,

whilst we’re apart?

How can my sun,

no longer shine?

I will not see,

sunrise sublime.

How can the word,

without the book,

the empty nest,

without the rook.

How can the empty

space be filled?

By graduations,

new lives rebuild.

These walls imbued,

with poet’s mood,

whilst words refrain,

deflecting pain;

the primal scream,

relives the dream,

of love once scorned,

this life sojourned.

the stockings were hung by the...tv stand

I see an old lady,

and I think of you –

enjoying her garden,

as so should you

Tinsel and fairy lights,

I really miss you;

coloured stockings hang,

each a memory from you.

Then comes the summer,

and I mourn for you,

for all the lost days,

and the things we can’t do.

When I hear a joke,

I want to tell you,

to laugh like two schoolgirls,

‘til tears wet cheeks through.

Each birthday ticks by,

I wait for your card,

I know it won’t come,

but it still hits me hard.

When I see an old lady,

it seems so unfair,

‘cause you’ll never grow old,

no stick, no grey hair.

When I see an old lady,

with daughter at side,

I think to myself,

That should be I…
