Dharma wheel

Dharma wheel (Photo credit: Triratna Photos)

Shattered in pieces,

and thrown on the floor,

cast off the shards,

I’m needing no more.

Pick up the remnants,

still shining with glory,

cherish and nurture,

to conclude the story.

Stick them together,

and fill in the gaps,

with glue of the Dharma,

to fill in the cracks.

Little by little,

polish and buff,

shine with compassion,

but that’s not enough…

Sanding the carcass,

shave off the excess,

contentment and calm,

shows nature’s egress.

Refine the mind,

and open the heart,

continue reflecting,

we’ve made a good start.

Suffering

English: Heart Planet Earth

Lying here thinking…

whilst the world is turning,

innocents in torment,

and the monks are still burning.

Peace was banished,

from this mystical land,

torture and imprisonment,

bedfellows, hand in hand.

The other continent –

starvation the plague,

Aids, poverty and illness,

apparent every day.

Conflict and oppression,

rule many a sacred Isle,

punished by their birth rite,

how can I rest or smile?

For I am one who’s lucky,

with freedoms of a Queen,

a life of capitalist luxury,

to me – feels quite obscene.

Ignore a Poem at your Peril!

In Peril

When night pervades,

and dreams half pondered,

take up your pencil,

pen the plot;

ignore a poem,

at your peril.

Like shadows fleeting,

they flutter and flee,

hiding in memories,

lurking and laughing –

they turn and snap,

snarling and prowling.

Bidden time ticks,

playing in peripheries,

of subconscious slumber,

and wanton wakefulness;

again I say –

ignore a poem,

at your peril.

How can you live,

and never question,

stories concocted,

by media suggestion?

I struggle to see,

how this is right,

an injured world,

can’t sleep at night.

Journalists quick,

to make a buck,

from someone’s misfortunes,

or tragic bad luck.

Magazine trash,

knows the score,

dishing out scandal,

Lies, misery, and more.

Governments depict,

skewed stories suspect,

maintain and inflame,

continued conflict.

All life is precious,

for us to squander,

time and energy,

on false propaganda.

Opus to Alex

Manuscript of piano trio opus 70 by L.v. Beethoven

The music of what happened,

of what could never be,

violins are playing,

my favourite melody.

The harp is in the background,

so gentle, sweet, and calm,

it’s pure and it’s emotive,

where nothing can bring harm.

The drums are the foundation,

underpinning future hopes,

solid, firm, and grounding,

cornerstone of my opus.

The strings they bring the melody,

add beauty to the score,

with soaring dreams and spires,

they lift the heart some more.

The piano brings the drama,

prophetic highs and lows,

it sets the mood of symphony,

accompanying the woes.

Do not forget the brass section,

significant in their part,

they bring the vocal cheekiness,

to complete the work of art.

My orchestra is now complete,

to play out my concerto,

each instrument a part of me,

my audible fiasco!

Vajrasattva Buddha with Bell (Ghanta) and Thun...

Vision of purity

Adamantine Noble Lord

Jewel in the lotus

Revered for your calm

Assuredly present beyond

Space or time

A cleanser of Death – Oh

Tantric delight

Turning my heart to

Visualise you, always so present

A sacred shared vow

Peace is not calm,

nor is it weak,

it is not timid,

when it speaks.

Peace is on fire,

bold and strong,

it will take on hatred,

and subdue wrong.

Peace is a warrior,

on a noble quest,

a valiant force,

at our heart’s behest.

Graveyard [1]

Sitting in the gardens,

admiring flower beds,

will you still remember me,

when I am long dead?

Reflections on my past life,

no longer hurt my heart,

for they are now just stories,

from which I am apart.

Mental chatter ceases,

calm imbues my soul,

wisdom and compassion,

start to make me whole.

Although I’m reminiscing,

of all that never was,

I still miss you dearly,

no reason just – because…

Show your sorrow,

tears and all.

Throw down the rain,

let torrents fall.

Show your anger,

in thunderous roar,

roll round the skies,

and then send more.

Show your fury,

with electric strikes,

lightening lights,

with bolts that smite.

I grieve your death,

and so do you.

I see your storms,

the summer through.

I’ve bought my ticket,

I’m going 1st Class!

Setting out on this quest,

on this lives long path.

My past is a story,

an interesting read,

but I’m leaving my baggage,

of which I don’t need.

I look through the window,

recognise all I see,

the Buddha land scenery,

familiar to me.

The weather is clement,

worldly winds have calmed,

the passengers valiant,

Dharma Sister’s at alms.

I’m enjoying the journey,

no rush to get there;

with guide book in hand,

and the wind in my hair!

We stop at the station,

other travellers alight,

we’re sharing this vision,

Enlightenment in sight.
