She wears her poetry in her hair,

and her bare stocking feet.

Blue nicotine stained nails

show her terminal habit;

cold cobalt bitten lips

where pen has split,

bleeds into her skin,

just as her words,

bleed through,

her muse.

Ipod Shuffle

NaPoWriMo – Day 9

Today’s challenge is to put your ipod on shuffle and pick the next five titles to include in a poem. Well I did cheat slightly as I have quite a bit of classical music on my ipod and they would be near impossible to include in a poem! Here is my attempt – not brilliant, but the best I could come up with!!

Sign Language Rap Battle

Now for something a bit different for NaPoWriMo!

As some of you may be aware, between writing poetry, my day time job is as a BSL (British Sign Language) Interpreter. Sign language is a very visual language and beautiful to watch. I came across this clip toady and although it is ASL (American Sign Language) and is different to BSL, you get the drift. It is amazing to watch these talented ladies. I hope you enjoy it!

Natural Order

I have just heard about the sudden death of Peaches Geldof and it has saddened and shocked me. I am not posting a poem that I had mapped out for today. Instead I am reposting this poem which was written after the sudden loss of a young family member. Utter sympathy goes out to her family, children, and loved ones.

Dedicated to all those gone, too soon and too young –

Always in our hearts…

How can it be?

When it is not natural.

Not this way,

from the blind side.

How can it be?

Order?

When it is out of order,

out of the ordinary,

extra ordinary.

You oxymoron,

natural order.

How can it be?

I stuck my toe up the bath tap,

I know what you’re thinking,

it didn’t get trapped.

I wriggled it about,

then pulled back down –

and to my surprise,

it was mucky and brown!

Take a cup of envy,

and mix it with some greed,

season it with hatred,

then add some, woe is me!

Plus one spoon of ego,

marinade in pity,

righteous indignation,

will make the mixture pretty.

Make a quick snap judgement,

blend it with assumption,

now, Prapancha Soup,

is ready for consumption!

Of what do I dream,

when I close my eyes?

I dream of the sea

and the star filled skies.

From constellations above

I would fashion a crown;

a cloak from the sea

matches my moonbeam gown.

I roam in the heavens

with Arianrod and Aether.

I swim in the oceans

with Nereides beneath.

With heartbroken Sirens,

sing laments to the seas.

With Aquilo the wind

I sing songs in the breeze.

When I close my eyes,

to this earth I’m not bound.

Neither time nor dimension

can tie this soul down.
