Alexandra Carr-Malcolm, grief, longing, loss, Mother, mourning, Mum, poetry, Yorkshire poet
It has been ten years since the death of my mother. This is one of my favourite poems dedicated to her. Not a day goes by when she isn’t missed and mourned.
Eight Lilies of remembrance,
stand to mark the way.
Eight lilies, one for each of you,
respect and honour the day;
to show that I still think of you,
though that day is done,
each lily marks a bygone past,
from a lifetime that is gone.
I smell their sweet thick lily scent,
It makes me think of you;
with fondest memories in my heart,
and tears that are now few.
No longer living in my world,
It is as though you’re dead.
The lilies are memorial,
to words still left unsaid.

Thank ypu Gyslaine ♡
Beautiful words Alexandra. That feeling of lost and missing doesn’t seem to go away. It’s 22 years since my mother died and I often think of her.
Thank you ♡ You are right, it doesn’t go away, but love does not die ♡ xxx

Mums are very inspirational 🙂
Lovely poem, lovely photo x
Thanks Polly xxx
It is a wonderful tribute to your mom. I miss mine too and your lovely poem made me think of her as well. You know moms leave us but stay forever to guide us and be with us until we meet again.
That’s very true Rasma. Thank you for your kind words♡
Beautiful.
Thank you Madhuri 🙂

I really enjoyed the transition in this poem of thought and feeling. Nicely done and I hope you don’t mind me sharing it! -OM

No thanks necessary. 🙂
This is beautiful.
Thank you 🙂
Beautiful. I lost my mom three weeks ago and one of the things that give me pleasant memories right now is the memory of her love of flowers.
Sending you big hugs. I try to write a poem every year for my mum xxx
Maybe I should too. Through she’d probably laugh at me a little. 😀
Have a go! You never know unless you try. It can be very cathartic. I’m sure she would be beaming and cheering you on xxx
Lovely!
