War Child
War child, far child,
not in my back yard child,
foul flies, infesting eyes,
freely grief is advertised.
Blasé news, propaganda views,
stretchered to the blues and twos.
Feuding plans, dividing clans,
charity absolving man.
Splitting heads, landmines, legs,
rubberneck, the child who begs,
behind the eyes, traumatized,
rape and murder legitimized.
Arms and gear, year on year,
dealers, spreadsheets, profiteer,
bankers, warlords, politician,
making schisms, capitalism.
War child, far child,
not in my back yard child.

Amazing work, Alex – powerful, poignant, provocative, and sadly, so true.
Thank you Carol – it is probably best read from the page as I wanted the rhythm to be that of a machine gun. Difficult to read that quickly and difficult to understand if read that quickly! 🙂 Alex
This is one of the poems I enjoyed in your book too. Very powerful.
Aw thank you. I’m glad you let me know as a couple of people have said the sound is too quiet and they can’t hear me. Xx
I turned it up and I could hear. I think the sound was the distance your husband standing not your presentation. For your first time I think you did great.
Aw thank you! Xxx
