Oh Vanessa, Vanessa,
where do you get off?
with your dark overlord poetry,
another trendy hip goth.
Vampiric feasting from honest dark grief,
poetic death porn, for your gratuitous relief.
Stand up! Stand up! You superstar!
Perform and pose, so we see who you are.
Don’t think of your morals, your duty, or ethics,
just another shock jock out to get your death fix.
Don’t think of the victims, dead or alive,
those with slashed apart souls just trying to strive,
to cope with the day and get through to the end,
with ripped apart lives that can never mend;
trying to breathe, lungs molten with mourning,
to those who’ve met death without prior warning,
who’ve stood at the edge of the gaping abyss,
and see your floor show for the ego fix that is.
Just think of your creed, your name and your art,
don’t care for the wake of what’s torn apart.
After all – responsibility – is it all yours?
Oh no – surely not – you perform for your cause!
I’ll remember your face and your soft slick show,
as you pose to the kids on your high pedestal;
but the audience was captive, no choice in the matter,
as you trotted out mentally destructive chatter.
Stuck on the front in the audience stare,
in a flashback that rendered me froze to the chair,
reliving the horror, of the cruelty of death,
the pain and the agony spewed from your breath.
Did you even know what you had done?
either ignorance, or intended, it can’t be undone.
You’ve uncaged a monster that now preys on my mind,
I cannot conceive someone can be that unkind,
So that takes me to ignorance, and the stupidity is,
Oh Vanessa, Vanessa, it was you that did this.

Interesting! I think this is the most opinionated i have ever heard you. Well done!
Thanks Resa. I was rather angry when I wrote this – can you tell?!
lol… Yes, … and I used opinionated, but angry… is okay! I think all is allowed in this creative field.
Sometimes a bit of anger or self righteous indignation can kick off a whole process 🙂
Wow! Alex! This is a bit of a departure for you…’tis a truly powerful poem…she proved an inspiration! x
Thanks Polly. It came from a place of anger and took me by surprise:) It came from an event that happened and the anger had to go somewhere or I would have been eaten away by it. I doubt she will ever read it but alas she still carries on….
Writing your anger into poetry is brilliant!
Thank you 🙂 It certainly helped 🙂
Wow! Beautifully done! I wondered what brought it on? Loved it!
I think it came from seeing the atrocities on TV of the refugees fleeing war torn countries. All these horrors are real and yet I’m sat in a safe centrally heated home whilst crass advertising is pushed at me and the TV shows shallow reality shows. Lol sounds like I’m on a real rant tonight! Lol I’m a squishy squashy softie honest! Thanks for asking I do love sharing where my poems came from. People rarely ask. Thank you!
Agree with you. These days I seem to be watching less and less of TV, and the commercials, getting worse every year! Joys of unbridled capitalism, yet I would rather live here than in a totalitarian society! Ah.. the books are always there to compensate!
Oh you are a kindred spirit! Thank goodness for books! Xxx
Oh I am a fool! Sorry the response before was explaining my thoughts behind War Child! I am replying on my phone and the layout is different!
Ah now Vanessa is a different story. I was interpreting in a lecture where a visiting artist did a very disturbing lecture on suicide. It was a very personal thing. I could not leave as I was interpreting so I was stuck in the experience. Nobody was prepped and a lot of people were affected, upset and distressed from the performance. It was another poem born from anger!
Suicide is not a pleasant subject, it happens all the same! I can understand how disturbing it could it. I guess the poem is one way of dealing with the whole experience.
Very true, unfortunately this performer wanted to shock. There was no regard for those who have been through the experience or were close to the subject.
I am so sorry. There should have been some sort of a warning before, and afterwards, sort of debriefing! Hope it’s behind you, xo and hugs.
Exactly! It’s still constant in my life but the poem was cathartic! Xxx
