They called you ‘big Dot’,
and I was ‘little Dot’,
you hated that.
Remember when,
on Christmas Eve,
chickenpox struck
with great malaise?
Granddad came to visit me,
and how he laughed,
and how he teased,
‘spotty Dotty’, he would say.
Remember the day, he came to play,
in his best green polka dot shirt?
‘Who’s spotty now?’
I shouted out loud.
You hit me,
it hurt.

I think that’s you in the centre at the bottom of the photo – is that Big Dot to your left? Ah, the days when Grannies looked like real Grannies. A lovely snapshot and a time capsule of a poem.
Haha nearly – Yes I am the little Dot, front centre. My Mum behind me (centre) is big Dot. To my right is my maternal Grandmother – Dorothy and my Gandfather behind her. My Father is top left and my Great Grandmother is on my left.
some memories we can’t erase or make better…

They mellow with age 🙂
Love the poem. It reminds me of well-meaning teasing relatives that would make me so angry as a child. 🙂
Oh yes – you’ve got it in one!! I wasn’t very good at being teased – I’m a sulker!!
beautiful but poignant poem, Alexandra . I have received the book and I like it! I love your Ku’s. groetjes, Francina
Oh fantastic – I am so pleased you like it. Sometimes it is good to cherish the poignant memories – also it inspires poetry 🙂

Cute. 🙂
Thank you 🙂
As always, good poetry. What can you tell this follower about Port Isaac AKA Portwenn in the southern-most part of Coenwald, England (did I get that correct?) in the Doc Martin TV show? It seems such a lovely, peaceful place…
I’ve never been there, but I believe it is a truly beautiful and picturesque place. The scenery is divine 🙂
Are you familiar with Doc Martin the TV series? If you are, then you know it’s worth watching just to see the “picturesque” settings. Thanks for your response.
Always enjoy your poetry…
I don’t watch much TV at all – but I have caught a couple of snippets and it made me laugh! I would love to go to Cornwall one summer 🙂
