The haunting song,
in a melody,
reminders of you,
in a memory.
Dance the last waltz,
and sing Auld Lang Syne,
our time it was over,
heartbreak be mine.
You danced with another,
I sang a duet,
do you still remember,
the day when we met?

A beautiful poem and I like the dancing characters. Dance give us the chance to be free for a moment.
hank you very much – I too like the dancing characters, on close examination the man appears more enthusiastic than the woman! The woman appears to be dragged around haha!
Auld Lang Syne always brings me to tears. They don’t play it at midnight any more on Dick Clark Rocking Eve.
It is still very traditional in the UK. I find it all quite depressing and maudlin! (a bit like most of my poems haha!!)
😀
Mine too, always have a hint of sadness. But memories are priceless and this post put me in a nostalgic mood.
Phew – good, I’m glad it’s nostalgic and not maudlin! 🙂
HeeHe!!
I think this is beautiful in its simplicity, Alex.
Thank you Polly – this is quite an old one. I thought with the auld lang syne reference, that it should have an airing!
🙂
a memory most of us have had
