The last of the summer rays
blush gently on my cheek.
Tears fall like dew from the morning rose.
The flower blossoms,
the flower blooms.
Slowly it fades
as petals fall
one by one
the spirit
is gone.
I wear my heart upon my sleeve,
I also wear my rose.
Both are there for you to see.
The flower blossoms,
the flower blooms.
Slowly it fades
as petals fall
one by one
the spirit
is gone.
The last rose of summer cries.
The heart beats deathly slow.
The sun has set beneath the skies.
The flower blossoms,
the flower blooms.
Slowly it fades
as petals fall
one by one
the spirit
is gone.

Hi Alex,
Ahh, a well-written poem on the ever enchanting rose; black at that!
Great piece of poetry. Thanks for following my blog.
See you around.
😉
Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment, I’m glad you appreciated the rose – despite it being black!
Look forward to reading more of your work too. 🙂
Muchas gracias, Alex.

A tribute…
I love this Alex, very melancholy but not sad; that is how it speaks to me 🙂
I wasnt aware of black roses! Are they for real?
Christine
Thank you Christine! I think this is photoshopped, I don’t think you can get pure black roses, I think you can get very dark purple. As a little girl, I waited with excitement and anticipation for a rose to bloom, which my father had planted. It was a blue moon. I was so excited, and then dreadfully disappointed when it turned out to be a pale purpley violet colour. I wanted a bright royal blue rose!
Ha ha! What a disappointment for you though! Those kind of memories stay forever vivid don’t they?!
Ah I see what you mean about the photo now! I must have been having one of my many naive moments! Of course, it looks now as though it has had the colour taken our. I should have realised because I have recently bought a photography book and it shows how to make just one part of the picture black and white. I find that really fascinating.
Photography, especially close up shots of flowers has become of interest to me lately. This has happened since I got MS and I am looking for interests that I can still take part in with weak hands, and at least flowers hardly move! Lol.

Oh I wish I had the time to master using photoshop! I would love to artistically manipulate photographs!! 🙂
