Find a penny,
avoid the cracks,
under the ladder,
break your back,
palm cross silver,
dead penny eyes,
just one magpie,
see how she flies,
knock on wood,
jump three grates,
across black cat,
five bar gate,
twin word jinx,
and a pinch of salt,
cross my fingers,
it’s not my fault.

Excellent ~ my word but you took me back …
Thank you! Somehow I wanted to work in, holding your breath whilst going under a tunnel – but alas gave up!!
Another great one. I love so many of the three-word phrases in here. Says so much with so little.
Aw thank you ! I’ve been working on a theme of superstitions recently!
I want to hop scotch to this! Love it.
Hello Colleen – thank you
Hopscotch or a skipping rhyme – either would be great!!
do believe this piece could be in a song
Thank you – I’d not thought of that – yes you are right – Oooh maybe Adele or Stevie Nicks?!
I hadn’t heard of all of these but most. Funny the things we do because we are taught but don’t know why until our children call us on it, “why are you knocking on wood?”
Ah – knocking on wood… for example, if you say the weather had been good up to know – knock on wood, it means – and may it continue so.
Or if you say – up to now I haven’t caught a cold – knock on wood – meaning and may my good fortune continue.
So it is a superstition to continue good fortune or to ward off bad fortune depending on how you look at it!
Yes but why wood?
